What I'd want a first-time concierge buyer to know before signing anything.
Most patients have never been concierge members before. The comparison process is unfamiliar territory — a different kind of decision than choosing a regular primary care doctor — and the marketing across practices is often similar enough that it's hard to tell what actually distinguishes them. This post is the orientation for first-time buyers.
Most concierge practices in Naples offer free meet & greets. The visit is typically 30 to 60 minutes, in person, with the actual doctor — not a sales staffer. You should leave with a clear picture of how the practice operates, what membership includes, and how to make the decision.
What's normal:
What's a yellow flag:
What's a red flag:
For a serious comparison, plan to visit two to four practices. Different ownership structures (independent, network-affiliated, hospital-owned) tend to produce different experiences, so it's worth seeing more than one type. Ask the same questions at each — the answers are easier to compare when the questions are identical.
Take notes during or right after each visit. You'll forget specifics within a few days, and the practices will start to blur together.
Take time to think between meet & greets and the decision. A few days minimum, ideally a week or two. Concierge memberships are an annual financial commitment that affects the most important non-emergency healthcare relationship in your life. Rushing the decision tends to produce regret.
Most patients overweight the wrong things. The features that don't matter much:
After you've done two to four meet & greets and compared answers, ask yourself:
Which doctor did I feel most comfortable with? Whose answers were most concrete and specific? Whose model best matches what I actually want? Which practice would I be most relieved to call when something is wrong?
The right answer should clarify itself. If two practices are tied, sit on the decision for another week. The right one usually emerges.
And if none of the practices feel right, that's also useful information. Concierge medicine isn't the right model for everyone. Continuing with traditional primary care, or waiting until a different practice opens, are both legitimate choices.
